The Horowhenua Events Centre is the largest indoor venue in the Horowhenua and Kapiti region suitable for hosting major sporting, cultural and social activities. Located in Levin’s town centre and in the historic Horowhenua AP&I Showgrounds, the first stage of the Events Centre was opened in 2004.
The second stage was opened on Saturday 28 October 2006. It is a huge indoor sports stadium (60m x 40m) which incorporates three full size basketball courts within one international sized indoor hockey rink.
The centre has been successful in attracting major events like the Kapiti Horowhenua Business Awards, National Cat Show, Medieval Market, Champion Dog Shows, Vintage Car and Hot Rodders displays.
The Events Centre’s popularity is growing due to its proximity to major centres – Wellington and Palmerston North. The centre sits within 23 acres of green space, has ample parking and easy access to SH1. It features a huge hall capable of seating 500 people for a meal or 1000 seated auditorium style. It also has a smaller conference room, wide entrance foyer, and excellent kitchen and utilities.
The Events Centre is run by a Charitable Trust, focused on the development of a true events centre complex for the people of Horowhenua.
